Anglican Church Grammar School – Laundry
New Laundry Building
With the need for expansion of its back-of-house service areas, we were commissioned by the school to create a new purpose-built laundry facility. As the site was situated within the heritage-listed ‘School House’ precinct, the designs also needed to comply with the strict heritage criteria of the surrounding building fabric.
Furthermore, as the new building was also to be located on the main streetscape passing through the school, any design also needed to consider this and uphold the school’s status and traditions.
Although the brief called for the inclusion of a new stand-alone laundry building, it needed to consider the interrelationship with ancillary delivery and office areas. Existing services and emergency facilities needed to be relocated and the existing building fabric needed to be preserved. As design strategies and concepts were considered, the school community were included and consulted to ensure all stakeholders were considered.
The contract maintained the traditional aesthetic of the surrounding buildings, complementing existing building materials and finishes where ever possible. The end result was well received and has created a valuable school asset for the future.
