Beach House Renovation

Alexandra Headland, Sunshine Coast

Project Details:

Located on a beautiful site, this much-loved family holiday home had grown tired and disfunctional.

The design brief was to create a contemporary and functional holiday getaway, ideal for the family and their guests to enjoy their break. Consideration was also to be given to incorporating the prevailing environmental conditions, especially the views and breezes, which had been neglected in the past.

The contract included a complete demolition out and reconfiguration of the existing interiors, including some walls. The trick here was to create a secure access between levels without wasting internal space on internal stairs, yet allowing as many windows and doors to remain open whenever possible

The striking new front deck and side entry became the feature of the renovation. With the new open plan layout revitalising the house, giving it a spacious and airy feel. We created a secure connection between both levels by providing select external timber screening. This allowed more light and ventilation to enter the internal areas, whilst also providing a natural shadowy interplay to these spaces.

It was a pleasure working with our clients, who were residing in Hong Kong at the time. They were open to design innovation and enjoyed being challenged with new ideas.

Guy’s plans gave us the new living areas that we required and the result is sympathetic to the original house. We are extremely happy with what has been achieved. Guy’s management of the contract and the project, and interface with the Builder meant that the project ran to schedule and to budget.
