Colonial House Renovation
West End, Brisbane
Located on a small inner-city block, the existing house was enclosed and dark, with only on-street carparking available to the owner.
The brief was to create a new lower level on-site carport, with a secure link through the garden, up into the house. This was to be complimented with a complete front make-over, opening the house up to the prevailing breezes and views. Given the heritage requirements of the local council, the brief also required that we keep as much of the existing building’s aesthetic as possible.
The first challenge was to gain approval to re-align the adjoining boundaries so that we could achieve a proper access to the new carport. A difficult process with combined easements across the property, with this preliminary objective achieved, the rest of the project fell into place. We were able to create the necessary spaces and ambience, without overtly affecting the original building fabric and aesthetic. The final outcome was complimented by a clever choice and location of materials, fittings and finishes.
Our client was great to work with through the entire process, and always remained open to new design innovations and concepts.
